VeLois Bowers
Senior Vice President, Diversity and Organizational Development

VeLois Bowers is currently the Senior Vice President, Diversity and Organizational Development, at Trinity Health, Novi, Mich., the nation’s fourth largest Catholic health care system. VeLois leads the development and implementation of short and long-term strategies, plans and programs within Trinity Health’s initiatives for diversity and inclusion, talent management, performance management, executive recruitment, and organizational development. As a change champion, she provides leadership in the development of a culture that celebrates and thrives with a diverse and inclusive group of associates, medical staff and business partners participating or serving in the healing ministry of Trinity Health.

Previously, VeLois served as Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion at the Kellogg Company. VeLois held a number of human resources roles within Kellogg, including director for staffing, employee relations and diversity. She spent five years at the Whirlpool Corporation, where she served as Vice President, Global Diversity. In this role, she developed and implemented a wide range of diversity strategies and initiatives for employees and the community of Benton Harbor, MI. She also worked for Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. for seven years in varying leadership roles, also in human resources.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She has participated in numerous leadership development programs throughout her career, including the Aspen Institute for Young Executives. She is a member of several boards and professional organizations including the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources, University of Arkansas Pine Bluff Foundation Board, Trinity Health Community Benefit Board, National Association of Health Service Executives, a founding member of the Council for World Class Communities, a lifetime member of NAACP, and the founder and chair of the Consortium of Diversity and Inclusion Professionals in Healthcare.

VeLois has delivered several workshops, taught courses at several institutions, and has given speeches to numerous groups, including students attending Notre Dame University, Hampton University, University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff, Andrews University and Northern Caribbean University.

Through VeLois’s dynamic leadership, Diversity Best Practices recognized Trinity Health’s CEO, Joseph R. Swedish, for his commitment to diversity. Diversity Best Practices presented VeLois with the Diversity Officers Leadership Awards award, and Corp! Magazine honored her with its Salute to Diversity award.
