Michael Murphy
Senior Vice President, Physician Services

Mike Murphy has executive responsibility over Trinity Health’s employed physician practice strategy and operations in collaboration with our Ministry Organizations.

Prior to joining Trinity Health, Murphy was Senior Vice President of Suburban Hospital Healthcare System in Bethesda, Md. where he played a key role in 2009 leading the organization to a full merger with Johns Hopkins Medicine. He also facilitated the launch of Premier Physician Group (PPG), growing it to more than 70 employed physicians over a two-year period.

Murphy has focused his career on being a key thought leader for health care organizations by helping them think “outside the box” through his roles as Vice President for Health Delivery with Mercy Health Partners (part of the 28 hospital system of Catholic Health Partners) where he focused on physician / hospital joint ventures and a retail medicine business with over 17,000 members.

His career includes developing startup specialty hospitals across the country including a hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo. where he remained for 10 years as the President and CEO. He directed the clinical operations of the cardiology service line for 850-bed Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. His career began as a clinical cardiac physiologist working in the area of corporate health promotion and chronic disease management working directly with major corporations including General Foods and Kimberly Clark.

Murphy has a Master of Business Administration from Xavier University; a Master of Science from University of Wisconsin; and Bachelor of Science from Springfield College, Springfield, Mass. He is board certified in Healthcare Management and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), and has been licensed by the State of Colorado as a Nursing Home Administrator.
